The area of northern Pindos: Myths

In the ancient times, Pindos was concidered to be a sacred mountain, dedicated to Apollo and the Muses. Its name, according to the myths, comes from the son of Makedonas, Pindos.

Makedonas, Hellinas, Magnis and Amfiktyon were sons of Zeus. Makedonas, apart from Pindos, had two other sons, who once envied their brother and sought to kill him. When he found out about it, he left and hid to the mountains of today's Pindos.

There, he met a drakon and they became friends. His brothers, though, found him and killed him and the dragon gave his name to the mountain range to honor his friend!True or false, we don't care much. The important thing is that Pindos is a birthplace of the Greek nation.

«From Pindos Macedon dictated», Herodotus writes.
