The refuge

Smolikas Mountain Refuge is just 29 km away from the town of Konitsa,in the Prefecture of Ioannina. It is built at an altitude of 1.750 m, in a verdant forest of robolo and black pine. Access to the refuge is easy since it is possible (apart from the national trekking path O3)* through the forest road from the village Palaioseli.

The mountain refuge of Smolikas runs all year round and is the ideal base for lovely walks and exploration of the (unknown to the most) beauty of the wild nature, with the unique fauna anf flaura of the second highest Greek mountain.

In order to serve the needs of the mountaineering - trekking and natouralist tourism in general, the new refuge built by the Prefecture of Ioannina, offers 4 rooms with 24 beds in total and it can accomodate up to 30 people.Also, the refuge has a kitchen with already cooked food, as well as a dinning - sitting room with fireplace. In the internal grounds, there are also 3 showers and 2 WC.

* This particular part of the national trekking path O3 which crosses over Smolikas is about 17 km  long. It starts from the village Palaioseli in Lakka Aoos and after it passes by the ashtonishing Drakolimni of Smolikas (altitude 2.150 m) it ends up to the village Ag. Paraskeyi  (Kerasovo) which lies at the homonym ravine. The path is marked almost to all of its length and it will be soon upgraded with essential infrastructure works to facilitate further the mountaineering and trekking activity on Smolikas.
